Lanyards for holding keys are classified in Class 14 by analogy to “key rings, key chains” which are included in the Class 14 Nice Explanatory Note. Lanyards for holding particular products are generally classified in the same class as the product, under Nice 12-2023. For example, "lanyards for holding cell phones" are classified in Class 9, the class of cell phones. "Lanyards for name badge holders" are classified in Class 16, the class of name badge holders.
