11-10-11 The service of applying a coating must materially alter the surface or item to be coated in order to be classified in Class 40. Examples of this include when the coating is applied by the use of some technological means such as electricity or heat. When the application of the coating doesn't change the underlying nature of the goods being coated that service is in Class 37.
